Camel ride in the Agafay desert

Along the ridge above the canyons, at the hour when the plateau turns ochre. Slower and quieter than people expect, and that is the whole point.

Line of camels and riders crossing the Agafay Desert against an orange sunset sky
From 35 € per person

What it is

The route follows the ridge above the canyons rather than the flat ground, and that is what gives it the view. A handler leads the animal on foot: you steer nothing, which is what makes it work for people who have never been near a camel.

It lasts 45 to 60 minutes. Two things nobody mentions beforehand. It is slower and quieter than you expect, and the silence is the reason people remember it. And the hour matters far more than the route.

When to go

Take it in the hour before sunset, when the plateau turns ochre and the canyons fill with shadow. At two in the afternoon the same ride is flat and white, and you will wonder what the fuss was about. First light works too, and is colder and emptier.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a camel ride in Agafay?
From €35 per person for 45 to 60 minutes. The hour before sunset is the one to book.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes. A handler leads the animal on foot and you steer nothing. Tell us the ages when you book and we pass it on.
Do I need any experience?

Can I book it on the day?
