Weddings in the Agafay desert

Ceremony on the plateau, dinner under the sky, and tents for your guests so nobody drives back at two in the morning.

What this looks like on the plateau

A wedding on the plateau is not a venue hire with a view. There is no mains water, the electricity is limited, and everything your guests eat and drink arrives by road. Prepared badly, that becomes visible on the night. Prepared well, none of it shows and the landscape does the rest.

The ceremony usually happens in the hour before sunset, because that is when the plateau turns ochre and the light is worth the photographs you will keep. Dinner follows after dark, outside when the weather allows. Guests who stay sleep in tents at the camp rather than driving an hour back to Marrakech in the dark.

Who this is for

  • Couples who want the desert rather than a riad courtyard
  • Weddings between 20 and roughly 200 guests, depending on the camp
  • Anyone whose guests are flying in and will make a weekend of it

What we tell you early

  • The guest count decides which camps are possible, so it is the first thing we need, not the last
  • Not every camp can host a marquee, and the ones that can are booked early in spring and autumn
  • A legal marriage in Morocco is a separate administrative process; what happens on the plateau is the celebration
  • Wind is more common than rain, and every wedding we arrange has a covered alternative agreed in advance rather than improvised on the day

What a quote covers

Usually included

  • Exclusive use of the camp, or a defined area of it
  • Dinner service for your guest count
  • Tents for the guests who stay
  • Setup and breakdown
  • Coordination on the day

Usually separate

  • Photography, music and flowers, which you may bring yourself
  • Transfers for guests from Marrakech
  • Legal formalities
  • Anything the camp does not supply, quoted separately

Planning and lead time

Six to twelve months for a wedding, and closer to twelve if your date falls between March and May or September and November. Those are the two windows everyone wants. A winter wedding is easier to place, genuinely beautiful, and colder at dinner than people expect.
